As many Queenslanders would know, QCoal has been running a campaign – https://www.tellthemwheretogo.com.au/ – to try and save the workers’ camp at the Byerwen mine from shut down by the State Government.
Many across the industry will also know that QCoal lost one of its family – Chris Schloss, in an incident at Byerwen mine camp in early August.
The loss of Chris, known as Schlossy by his many, many friends, has devastated the QCoal workforce, his friends and family.
Our focus has been on the welfare of his wife Amanda and Chris’ five children, along with his shattered workmates.
Chris built the camp at Byerwen from its greenfield site to the $30m home-away-from-home for Byerwen’s 800 workers. He has been an integral part of the mine’s development over the last seven years.
QCoal, of course, immediately asked his wife whether they should remove Chris’ image and passionate words on behalf of the camp at Byerwen from our campaign.
Chris led the fight for the camp and is featured on billboards, TV, newspaper and radio ads and across digital and social media.
Amanda has asked that his presence be retained in the campaign. She believed Chris would want to keep up the fight and so asked that his image and words not be removed as he felt strongly about the issue, and she wanted to honour his legacy.
QCoal too wishes to honour that legacy. Vale Chris.
