Jax Coal Project is a proposed open-cut coal mine located in Queensland’s Bowen Basin about 15 kilometres south of Collinsville. Once operational the Jax Coal Project will produce up to 1.8 million tonnes of coal per year and employ a workforce of about 100 people with an expected mine life of 21 years.

Between 2012 and 2013 Leighton Contractors operated a bulk sample project at the Jax site. The sample coal was hauled about nine kilometres by road to QCoal’s nearby Sonoma Mine where it was prepared for transport to Abbot Point Coal Terminal for export to test international markets.

Jax Coal Project is currently awaiting statutory approvals to commence full mining operations.  The mining lease for the Jax Coal Project is expected to be granted in 2014.
