Jax Coal Project is a proposed coal mine located in Queensland’s Bowen Basin about 15 km south of Collinsville. It will produce up to 1.8 million tonnes of coal per year and employ a workforce of about 100 people with an expected mine life of 21 years.

The Queensland Government has approved an environmental management plan for the project and the application for the environmental authority and mining lease is progressing.

Jax Bulk Sample Project

In July 2012, Leighton Contractors started the extraction of the 350,000 tonne bulk coal sample from the Jax site. Queensland company, Ostwald Bros, secured the contract to transport the sample coal by truck to Sonoma Mine, about five kilometres north of the Jax site. The sample will be prepared for transport by train to Abbot Point Coal Terminal where it will be shipped to Asia for testing.

The Queensland Government has approved an environmental management plan and granted the environmental authority for the sampling operation, providing the licence to undertake the excavation.

The mining lease for the full mining operation could be granted before the end of 2012.
