The Drake Coal Project is a proposed open cut coal mine located in Queensland’s Bowen Basin about 17 kilometres south of Collinsville. It is expected to produce up to 6 million tonnes of coal per year with a mine life of 30 years. QCoal supports local and regional employment with the Drake Coal Project expected to generate about 350 construction jobs and up to 480 operational jobs. Our contractors, once engaged, will advertise opportunities to work at the mine. We are committed to maximising local industry participation and our contractors will give preference to suppliers of Australian-manufactured equipment that is competitively priced and complies with the relevant standards and specifications. Project status The public review period for the environmental impact statement for the Drake Coal Project closed on 25 June 2012. Project timeframes We expect to start construction of the mine in 2013 following approval by the Queensland and Australian Governments. |
