QCoal’s  primary coal chain focus is in the northern Bowen Basin where it has been working with both North Queensland  Bulk Ports Corporation (NQBP) formerly PCQ, the owner of the Abbot Point Coal terminal, and Queensland Rail to reliably supply coal to export customers.

Abbot Point Coal Terminal  has a current capacity of 21 Mtpa. The port currently experiences relatively short vessel queues compared with other ports in Queensland.

The Northern Bowen Basin is currently serviced by the Newlands Rail Line which terminates at Abbot Point.

The Newlands line operates with diesel trains of up to  1300m length and 20 tonne axle  load. The capacity of the line is expected to increase to 50 Mtpa and to operate with diesel trains of 1,402 metres with 26.5 tonne axle loads at the completion of the GAPE X50 project.
